ACTIA offers technology solutions for more efficient and sustainable urban mobility.
ACTIA presented its innovation subjects, central to the urban mobility market, to around fifty European partners (cities, start-ups and research laboratories in particular) present at the EIT Innovation Days. Its subjects include micromobility, video security in public transport vehicles, and on-board and connected technologies for predictive vehicle maintenance. The aim for ACTIA and the other solution providers is to offer interested contracting partners (particularly cities) mature technology solutions, according to the TRL* (Technology Readiness Level) scale, that can be tested under real operating conditions. The EIT Innovation Days therefore give a real boost to safer and more sustainable urban mobility.
The main features of the call for projects: objectives and challenges
The main open call for proposals on innovation was initiated in mid-April.
The EIT Urban Mobility Innovation Days brought together key players in urban mobility in Europe to forge new collaborations as part of the second call for proposals on innovation for the 2023-2025 business plan.
Meeting the challenges of urban mobility
The overall aim of the innovation programme is to solve the challenges faced by European cities in improving the lives of their citizens, by bringing innovations to the market.
With projects that are close to the market, candidates must be able to test new solutions in real urban demonstrations that can achieve commercial viability by the end of the project.
The EIT Urban Mobility Business Plan 2023-2025 defines nine challenge areas stemming from more than 250 urban mobility challenges identified by cities across Europe.
For this call, three challenge areas have priority:
- Sustainable City Logistics: operational, pooled or brokerage services, business modelling, technological innovations in urban logistics.
- Mobility & Energy: the adoption of clean, zero-emission energy solutions that decarbonise the urban transport offer.
- Future Mobility: new digital devices or products capable of improving the way we live, work and travel in cities.
*TRL (Technology Readiness Level)
Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) are a method for estimating the maturity of technologies during the acquisition phase of a programme. The TRL scale relates to hardware, components, peripherals, etc.; in particular with a view to financing research and development or integrating this technology into an operational system or sub-system.
ACTIA innovations for urban mobility
For connected electric bikes
EAPCs (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles) are an eco-friendly and cost-effective transport solution, and their connectivity, made possible through BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology, offers a number of benefits. In particular, it allows advanced diagnostic, software update (FOTA) and anti-theft functions.
As an expert in on-board telematics, ACTIA offers solutions for electric bikes that go far beyond simple assistance. Thanks to its extensive experience in system data acquisition and management, as well as its outstanding understanding of electronics and software, ACTIA’s innovations for connected electric bikes offer maximum suitability and efficiency.
For autonomous vehicles
At the EIT Innovation Days, ACTIA presented an innovative real-time video surveillance system designed for autonomous, i.e., driverless, urban transport vehicles, such as the shuttle buses used on large campuses or in airports. This technology has already been deployed and approved on board trains, and ACTIA is proposing its extension to other uses and under various constraints in response to the development of autonomous vehicles in passenger transport.
For internal combustion and gas-powered vehicles
ACTIA’s proposal for internal combustion and gas-powered vehicles focuses on on-board and connected predictive maintenance technology, particularly to prevent engine overheating. This intelligent solution would enable preventive maintenance to be carried out in real time, thereby reducing maintenance costs and vehicle downtime. This initiative is an important step towards more efficient and sustainable mobility in urban areas.
By offering innovative solutions for urban mobility, ACTIA is demonstrating its commitment to a safer, more sustainable future for Europe’s cities. With the EIT Urban Mobility Innovation Days, ACTIA was able to present its mature technological solutions and offer a unique opportunity to test these innovations in real operating conditions. ACTIA believes that these technologies will attract the attention of European contracting parties keen to develop safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly mobility. So, watch this space!
