The first real-life applications of ACTIA’s new long-distance Portable Radio Warning Device (DAPR) are conclusive. The system is being deployed on several large-scale railway renovation worksites by FVF and SAGES-RAIL, TSO subsidiaries of the NGE Group, which provides trackside safety for the SNCF railway network.
ACTIA’s SAFeasy 200 DAPR system is one of the first on the market to cover very long distances: over 1 km. It is reliable and easy to install, making it possible to reconcile the objective of staff safety with continuity of service, as staff work adjacent to an in-service railway track.
An ‘extraordinary’ system for a large-scale worksite
The most common worksites where the ACTIA solution is implemented are designated as industrial by SNCF Réseau. These are sites where rails are renewed on an industrial scale using the BOA track renewal train. This famous ‘factory’ train unloads rails that are 80 to 120 metres in length and have come straight from the steelworks, welds them electrically on the track, substitutes them for the old rails and finally reloads the replaced rails.
This is the case in Venarey-les-Laumes (Côte-d’Or), on the Paris-Lyon high-speed line. The ACTIA system was extensively deployed on this worksite where the track was renewed by the BOA train. The system, which FVF describes as ‘extraordinary’, consists of 28 audible alarms and visual warnings, in addition to the central warning unit and the warning boxes, covering more than 1,800 linear metres. The warning point (POA) is located 890 metres away and the warning covers an area of exactly 1,760 metres. A distance that had never before been covered by a safety radio system.
To date, the ACTIA DAPR is the only system authorised by SNCF Réseau to carry out such work, in a single warning chain and with an SIL 4 safety level. This is why this system was chosen by the TSO railway safety subsidiaries, and FVF in particular,
