ACTIA unveils the technological performances of its 4.0 bikes

Kits VAE ACTIA

The equipment manufacturer ACTIA is moving at full throttle into the booming EAPC (Electrically-Assisted Pedal Cycle) market, in start-up mode. Competition is fierce in this rapidly evolving market, which is dealing with both technological breakthroughs with bikes that are increasingly sophisticated, and a shift in economic models, with new market players developing new offers and services. This means that, between the market’s leading lights and the Chinese bikes flooding Europe, we had to hit hard to make our mark. ACTIA is banking on the technological performance of its EAPC kits, which indisputably have got it where it counts. Demonstration.

Electrical assistance: comfortable pedalling for maximum pleasure, minimum effort

Comfort is guaranteed by the electronic and software control of the electric motor, which provides both smart and progressive electrical assistance, and flexibly and intuitively adapts to the cyclist’s needs at all times.

The ACTIA kits have a wide range of power and torque performances to serve a varied customer base with very different requirements, for users cycling:

  • in town or in the countryside,
  • on cycle paths and trails (MTB),
  • in the mountains of southwestern France, or on Mediterranean beaches.

ACTIA has solutions for cyclists with high expectations.

Hub or crank drive motor

ACTIA offers customers both hub and crank drive motors.

  • Crank drive or “mid-drive” motor, centrally positioned on the strength training/assistance axis, and with a built-in torque sensor, this motor is acclaimed for its comfort and feel.
  • Hub or “wheel” motors, controlled using the latest electronic and software technologies, are excellent value for the performance they provide. They are considered an outsider on the market.

The products offered by ACTIA live up to all expectations.

Power and torque translate to flexibility

High-precision ACTIA torque sensors are at the heart of an optimised management algorithm. These intelligent sensors allow progressive assistance according to the effort made by the user, providing smooth pedalling for a jolt-free ride. Fitted with these sensors, the motor torque makes the motor extremely reliable.

Most electric bikes on the market have torques ranging between 15 and 85 Nm. ACTIA kits, meanwhile, boast a drive power of up to 120 Nm. That’s enough to let you move off easily, even on steep hills, as soon as you start pedalling.

Batteries: technology taken from a famous American electric car

Lifespan of EAPC kits

On both cars and electric bikes, the battery is a high-cost item, both to purchase and to use. This makes it one of the main criteria when choosing an EAPC model. Battery lifespan can vary by a factor of two depending on use. For daily use, experts estimate a lifespan of 4 to 6 years.

ACTIA uses the latest generation of battery cells, the same as are used by the major American electric car manufacturer. This high-performance battery technology is a sign of quality, safety and lifespan, providing more than 1100 charge/discharge cycles.

Range

ACTIA applies its eco-design processes and designs its own electronic and software modules to precisely control charging and discharging of its Battery Packs. They combine optimal efficiency and battery preservation. Through its environmental charters, ACTIA is also mindful of the carbon footprint of its partners and suppliers.

ACTIA batteries allow a range of more than 100 km for the most powerful models. The ACTIA design office is well aware that this maximum distance can vary according to the route profile and the assistance mode used, and places an emphasis on closed-loop management of battery consumption using multiple sensors:

  • speed,
  • torque,
  • pedalling rate,
  • energy consumed,
  • assistance level,
  • battery charge level, etc.

Examples of power of batteries used by ACTIA:

  • 36 V and 10 Ah: the distance travelled will be approximately 50 km,
  • 36 V and 13 Ah: you can travel up to approximately 80 km.

ACTIA eBike for connected riders

On-board technology requires significant expertise and investment. As an expert in vehicle connectivity, ACTIA makes good use of its knowledge to support the connectivity of its electric bikes.
This means the group is able to include the connectivity and software component from the entry level upwards.

We think there is a unique opportunity to make new technologies accessible to as many people as possible, particularly young people, as all the connectivity features are there on our entry-level bikes.”  explains Olivier Jannot, Director of ACTIA’s micro mobility activity.

Connected services: comfort and safety

Users connect to the EAPC with their smartphone (Android or iOS), via a screen on the handlebars or through a diagnostics terminal (reserved for repairers).

This connectivity enhances safety and the user experience, offering various services:

  • dynamic bike data dashboard (speed, assistance, battery status, distance travelled, etc.),
  • geolocation and tracking/saving routes and performances,
  • remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance,
  • monitoring the cyclist’s performance and health (e.g., heart rate),
  • locking and theft alarms,
  • sending a distress signal and remotely blocking electric assistance,
  • wireless software updates, etc.

Upgradability: staying one wheel ahead

Software updates are required in various situations (as after-sales service), including changing regulations, new functions, or operation optimisations.

Contactless and wireless software updates and connectivity are available at any time and are always offered on the production models.

All ACTIA equipment is compatible with the FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) protocol: for eBikes that stay up to date with the best level of performance.

Connectivity opens up a vast field for customisation, to adapt bikes to different customers and uses that are constantly changing.

Competitiveness of EAPC kits

ACTIA is currently the only European electric bike equipment manufacturer to provide customers with an EAPC electrification product offering that is:

  • comprehensive,
  • connected,
  • communicative,
  • upgradeable,
  • and reliable.

for unrivalled quality and user satisfaction at a very competitive price.

ACTIA intends to use its level of technological performance to challenge the major players on the market. Its range of EAPC kits boasts high levels of quality at extremely competitive prices: selling points that are bound to attract users to saddle up with ACTIA.
